Volvo Corporation has demonstrated the predecessor of the new XC90 crossover series
Volvo has unveiled the first images of the concept crossover XC Coupe in a three-door version, the premiere of which should take place at the motor show in Detroit. Thus, already in January it will be possible to see the concept directly with your own eyes. A little earlier, Volvo presented teasers of cars. In an interview with Autocar, the company’s chief designer Thomas Ingenlath said that the concept will give an idea of the stylistic features of the next generation XC90. The release of the SUV itself is scheduled for 2015.
The XC Coupe prototype will be the second concept, after the Concept Coupe, which is designed to show Volvo’s branded updated style, as well as demonstrate all the possibilities of using the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) modular base. However, the technical characteristics of the prototype are still kept secret. Also, official representatives of Volvo clarified that in the future another model of a conceptual car should appear, which will be made in a similar direction of the design. However, as always, more information about any parameters has not yet been reported.
Information about the next generation of the XC90 crossover was published last summer. The SUV is designed to become the first serial Volvo car to equip the SPA chassis. It is expected that the crossover will be equipped only by four-cylinder power units of the Drive-E family. Today, one of them is considered the most productive, namely a 306-horsepower engine. Its volume is 2 liters. In addition, the engine has a direct injection of fuel and double boost with the help of a turbine and a mechanical supercharger.
There is little data on the concept, and even less on the production SUV. Only images of the concept from different angles are available. Rumor has it that more details about the XC90 should be expected by the end of this summer.
